I am a senior at Westminster College. I am studying art, religion, sociology, and philosophy. I have aspirations of using art as a means by which to work with children. The focus of my work in art has been with pottery. I plan to take what I have learned and use it to help children in less fortunate situations than my own.
My interests with clay began totally by accident. During my sophomore year I needed an art credit and decided to take a hand-building class. I had no idea what I was stepping into. From the first few classes, I knew that I loved working with clay. I just kept spending more and more time in the art department. Kathy Koop’s teaching and demonstrations helped me learn techniques, but her enthusiasm and support were what kept me inspired to continue with pottery. I am very glad for the several semesters I had in hand building at the beginning of my work with clay. I then started throwing and have learned to love clay even more. I am amazed at times I feel a connection with the clay that I hope to never forget.
