When I signed up in the fall of 1998 for Art 202: Wheel throwing Ceramics at Westminster College, I thought it just sounded fun. Little did I know that it would change my life. Under the guidance of Kathy Koop, I was first taught how to do the basics of wheel throwing and then progressed to different shapes, sizes, and more detailed pieces. She said to the class, "the more you practice, the better you will become." So practice I did. All along the way, Kathy was there encouraging and providing helpful hints. At the end of the semester, I had twice as many pieces as required for the course and was urged to participate in the pottery sale in the Westminster Art Gallery that took place at the end of the semester. I was pleased with how the sale went and now have pottery displayed in two stores. I am just entering my second semester of working with clay, and I look forward to what may come in the future and what Kathy has to teach me. I still have so much to learn.
