Interaction Totem
High fire Stoneware, Feldspar, clay and ash glazesThe three small pots at the base of the totem represent the main effects of the three main ingredients in glazes. A main effect is when each is used alone. They are from left to right: feldspar, ashes, and clay. The four pots in the totem represent all of their possible interactions: Ashes + clay; Ashes + Feldspar; Clay + Feldspar and Clay+Feldspar+ Ashes. Potters use empirical methods in glaze formulations. The designs are similar to those used in experimental psychology. This is a 2 X 2 X X 2 between pots design.
