Islands, S.K. Webster

High fire Stoneware, Celadon and Rutile Glazes. 8x6x6

Carl Jung described the collective unconscious with two metaphors.  One is as a chain of islands which appear to be separate above the surface of the ocean but are really connected below sea level.  The second is as the fingers of a hand in which the fingers represent individuals who are all connected into the collective unconscious represented by the hand.  The islands made on the side of this pot were put there with hand prints.  the fingers are above the surface and show clearly while the remainder of the hand is unclear in the murky depths. .
