The Westminster College Preschool Lab, located in the Hoyt Science Resources Center, is a multi-purpose facility that serves both the College and the community. Designed by early childhood experts, our laboratory school is committed to providing an excellent learning experience for the area's children. The program is enhanced by the use of an innovative curriculum, well-trained staff, developmentally appropriate equipment and individual attention. We are accredited by NAEYC's National Academy of Early Childhood Programs and licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s State Board of Private Academic Schools.
The Preschool Lab is the Psychology Department's developmental laboratory. College students gain experience with young children through observation, volunteer opportunities and as part of the teaching team. Research projects are conducted by students under the guidance of faculty from the Department of Psychology, with additional approval from the College's Institutional Review Board when needed. Children who attend the school participate in a variety of research projects throughout the year. Parents are informed of any ongoing projects.
On July 31, 2007 the Westminster College Preschool Lab received re-accreditation under the new system of the National Association for the Education of Young Children. We are one of a handful of schools nationally that has achieved this status. NAEYC accreditation is considered a 'gold standard' for quality in early childhood education. Our thanks to the families and staff at Westminster College who have helped us achieve this goal.
"The primary gauge of quality has been accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children… whose seal of approval is regarded as the gold standard by parents, educators and facilities."
