Occupational Therapy B.A. Program Description title

Students are required to take courses in five categories: (a) liberal studies curriculum, which include intellectual perspectives, electives, and a cluster course, (b) psychology courses (40-44* hours are required in psychology), (c) required Westminster support courses, (d) required non-Westminster courses (by the end of the senior year), and (e) Duquesne courses taken in the spring of the senior year.

·          Biomedical Ethics (PHI 240), which also fulfills the Religious and Philosophical Thought Intellectual Perspective

·          Psychology elective courses as follows (minimum of 12 credit hours)

o         A minimum of one course from the following:

§          Childhood and Adolescence (PSY 221

§          Adulthood and Aging (PSY 291)

o         A minimum of one course from the following:

§          Organizational Psychology (PSY 241)

§          Abnormal Psychology (PSY 401)

§          Developmental Psychopathology  (PSY 431)

·          Four hours of OT internship experiences with Duquesne consultancy, usually completed in the summer after the junior year (PSY 560)

Other required non-Westminster courses (to be completed by the fall of the senior year)*

Foundations/Fundamentals of Occupational Therapy (This is a required proficiency course offered through Duquesne). This course does not earn Westminster credit.

Medical Terminology (This is a required proficiency course which may be taken on-line, at local hospitals, or through community colleges).

* If required non-Westminster courses are completed prior to graduation, a minimum of 40 hours of psychology courses are needed.
