Welcome to my personal teaching philosophy page. I have enjoyed teaching at the Westminster College Preschool Lab for the past sisteen years and have worked in the field of Early Childhood since 1984.
As an early childhood educator, I recognize and emphasis the development of the whole child. By providing for children's physical, social, emotional, cognitive needs, a positive, age appropriate learning environment is created. My curriculum is planned according to the children's interests and needs. Activities that are appropriate for one group of children may not be appropriate for another. By offering developmentally appropriate learning experiences, children play and learn at the same time.
For the past ten years I have been the Special Needs Coordinator for the Preschool Lab. Some of my responsibilities as coordinator include developing an inclusive preschool program, creating a teaching unit about disabilities named Our Special Friends, and acting as liaison between the Preschool Lab and early intervention agencies. I have also been involved in several community support groups that facilitate both the development and the promotion of inclusive practice for early childhood educators. Two of these organizations are the Local Interagency Coordinating Council (LICC) and the Inclusion Support Project (ISP).
On a more personal note... I have been blessed with a loving husband and two wonderful children who never cease to amaze me! I am the women's golf coach at Westminster College and am proud of the girls and their last two seasons as PAC Champs. I am active in my church, having served as both Elder and Deacon, and I absolutely love to read, play golf, and ski.
